Lost: The Return of John Locke
Lost
abc
Wednesdays 9pm ET/PT
Bad Robot Productions
abc Studios
Episode 7: The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham
Air date: Feb. 25, 2009
http://abc.go.com/player/index?pn=index&spartner=hulu&show=93372&season=171692
Welcome Alana and Cesar! Two people who had the bad luck to be on Flight 316 at the same time as Ben and the Oceanic Six.
It's so interesting that Charles Whidmore and Ben Linus despise each other so much and yet are so similar. They are both cold-blooded killers. (Whidmore uses hired guns.) They are driven by power and love. They both want John Locke to return to the island to save it...until Linus learned that Locke wanted to contact Eloise Hawking. Anyone figure out that attempted murder? Which appeared to be successful.
The character of Matthew, Whidmore's go-to man, is one of the creepiest characters in the show. As he pointed out, he's always around. The orderly who convinced Locke to go on the walkabout in Australia, which put him on Flight 815, which crashed on the island. Stopping by Hurley in the asylum, pretending to be with Oceanic. And driving Locke around in his attempt to persuade his friends to return to the island.
Jack and Kate had it right the first time when Locke met them separately. (Which wouldn't make for good tv, I realize.) Returning to the island is madness. "Oh, but our friends are in danger." So call the UN. From what I've seen, not only is visiting the island extremely dangerous, but the chance of being marooned there is very, very high. And Kate has a son, illegally acquired or not. Isn't her responsibility to him to protect herself for his sake? The same goes for Sun....although I can understand a loving wife wanting to be reunited with her husband.
At least they should have arrived with communications equipment and an exit strategy. ("If I haven't called in six weeks, send a rescue party.") All they have, it appears, is another ruined aircraft. What a shame.

Lost Feb. 18
Lost
abc
Wednesdays
Bad Robot Productions
Final season
Feb. 18 episode
This episode also leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Let me say unequivocally I would never under any circumstances return to the island unless I could be assured of rescue. The Oceanic Six returned to the island with no such guarantee--in fact, they were hoping for a plane crash. (The chances of one person being involved in more than one plane crash are almost infinitesimal.)
Who beat up Ben Linus? Why? Obviously the person he was supposed to meet. But we don't know any other details.
Hurley seemed to want to prevent Ben from boarding the aircraft. But he could have prevented all from successfully returning simply by refusing to board the flight himself.
The bright light in the aircraft, and Jin's operational Volkswagen truck and crisp new Dharma uniform suggest a time warp to the mid-80's. I guess we'll see.
Locke killed himself to guarantee the others would return to the island? He really did believe it was bigger than any one person's life, including his own.

Lost 2-hr. premiere 01-21-09
Lost
ABC
Wednesdays 9pm ET/PT
Season premiere
Bad Robot/Touchstone Television
This was a much better pair of episodes than I expected. As he said toward the end of last season in a conversation with Kate near a runway at LAX, Jack thinks the Oceanic Six need to return to the island to save the lives of the survivors still living there. Hell, I would never go back, but that's me and apparently a minority opinion. Ben Linus wants them all to return. Kate is in because someone thinks Aaron isn't really her son. Well, duh. Anyone could have figured that out at the Oceanic Six initial news conference. Can't figure out Sun's or Sayid's motives for return. Hurley would rather be incarcerated than return to the island, and I can't say I blame him.
Meanwhile (back at the Hall of Justice*), the island's time frame is switching back and forth. What a great twist that Dr. Danny was part of the Dharma Initiative! And Ethan almost killing John Locke--classic Lost. "Hey, Charlie shot you six times back in Season One!" The Others' reaction to coming across survivors was typical, too--shoot or amputate first and ask questions later. Who was shooting the flaming arrows? That was a first.
Is Sawyer now to be known as James?
Does anyone remember the name of Danny Farraday's team? I'm terrible with character names. The redhead and the psychic. Oh, the redhead is Charlotte. Classy of Danny to keep his tie on in the jungle. And Ana-Lucia told Hurley someone said hi. Who was it? Oh, Libby--the second woman Michael murdered in the course of freeing Linus from Flight 815 survivors' custody. And the kids Ana-Lucia promised to reunite with their parents: are they still with the Others? Is Richard in charge now that Locke is dead?
*Sorry--Superfriends reference. A college roommate and I liked to do that.

Not sure about watching Lost this season
Premieres Jan. 21 8pm ET/PT. 3 hrs.

Lost cont'd.
Is Claire still alive? Why did she hide out in Jacob's cabin--with her dead father--and abandon her son? Very odd behaviour.

Lost cont'd.
Just wondering: we last saw Mikhail blowing up the off-shore operation at the end of last season. Whatever happened to him? Is he back with Richard, Locke and the Others?
We never figured out the Others' whispering trick. Is that just something they do to scare people?
