Reply Letter #2: Touhy/Wash stop sign

Look, Alderman-for-Life, why don’t we just install four-way stop signs at every intersection in the ward? Oh, wait, that’s your evil plan, right?

I do believe you are “indulging the wishes of the school.” After all, you are caving in to the school’s request to the detriment of the rest of us.

>>> Thank you for your input, but I have no intentions to remove the sign.

And I have no intention of stopping for it.

Except that he, by not removing it, is within his rights as Alderman. You, by not stopping, are breaking the law.

It's like emailing Blagojevich and saying you feel that the speed limit on Touhy should be 55 and then, when he says no, saying "screw it, I'm going as fast as I please!"

Everyone's entitled to their opinions, but at the end of the day, we've got to obey the law, even if we disagree with it.

I protest your analogy. The speed limit on Touhy could not be 55 as it has traffic controls at least every quarter-mile. But not stopping at Washtenaw is simply doing what every Touhy driver had done before the sign's installation last month. Yes, Stone is within his rights as Alderman to install the stop sign and keep it there. And that's part of the problem; Aldermen use stop signs as a cheap method to placate the masses.
